The hot/cold food idea seems very similar to that in South Asia, and is fundamental to Ayurvedic traditional medicine.
Some vegetables may have been actually different because they have been bred heavily since, or different varieties have become available.
There were differences between lifestyles.
This article quotes many different sources from places that were far apart. Most sources are 14th or 15th century, but one is 11th century. things probably changed over three or four centuries, and would have been even more different a few centuries earlier.
